Connect Bookkeeping CLI to ChatGPT using Developer Mode and MCP connectors. This lets you query your accounting data directly from ChatGPT.

Requirements
Developer Mode is a beta feature available only for ChatGPT Plus, Business, and Enterprise accounts.

Enable Developer Mode

Open Settings

Click your profile icon in ChatGPT and select Settings.

Navigate to Apps

In the Settings menu, click on Apps, then Advanced settings.

Enable Developer Mode

Find the Developer mode toggle and switch it to On.

Connect Bookkeeping CLI

Start a New Chat

Open ChatGPT and begin a fresh conversation. Developer Mode may not work in existing chats or projects.

Open Connectors

Click the plus icon (+) in the chat composer and select Developer Mode.

Add MCP Connector

Create a new connector pointing to your Bookkeeping CLI MCP server URL with your API key for authentication.

Enable the Connector

In the dropdown menu below the text box, enable the Bookkeeping CLI connector.

Using It

Once connected, be specific with your prompts. Use exact tool names when asking questions:

Show my unpaid invoices from Billy
Who are my top customers?
What bills are due this week?
List all my products
Important
Developer Mode provides powerful access to external tools. Be cautious of prompt injections and always verify actions before confirming data changes.
